Menstruation is a topic that is spoken less of. I had written my story earlier here. This is another one because I feel this a topic that needs to be discussed more and openly.
My monthly companion is here,
Without a warning, she likes to appear.
Red is her favorite color,
and she also visits my mother.
Today she wants me to tell you something,
and that she isn’t especially fond of coming.
But that is how the universe and biology works,
she says and smirks.
There is nothing to be ashamed of,
the red in the white sheets,my love.
I know you stay for long in the bath,
trying to deal my wrath.
I do hear you cringe ,
and at times feel you binge.
It is okay to bleed I tell you,
I know all this while you knew.
It isn’t a disease or bane,
I know it is a lot of pain and strain.
I ask for you to talk about it openly,
I say to my monthly companion,”I agree totally.”
We shall break the stigma around Periods, won’t we ?
“This blogathon is supported by the Maya App, used by 6.5 million women worldwide to take charge of their periods and health.”
It is Day 27 of UBC.
Nicely penned. You have conveyed the much-needed message… 🙂
You are a magician with words and you must keep on writing.
Never understood why its a stigma.I have never been ashamed of discussion about this for the simple reason that if we didn’t have periods the life cycle of the human race would stop .It’s to be celebrated.
A nicely composed poem with a message at the end.

You’ve described exactly what we women go though each month.
Good going on the writing, Ramya. Keep it up!
Glad you chose to write on menstruation which is something natural in women and shouldn’t be a matter of prejudice, Ramya. I blogged about it, too.
