Let me live,
The gift of life please give.
I too have fingers five
And I can survive.
Please don’t kill me in the womb,
and let mom mourn over my tomb.
I wish to be in your arms,
I mean no harm.
I promise to be a good daughter,
You will be proud of me, father.
Let me into your world,
And I won’t give you a reason to regret.
Don’t crush me and my hopes,
after all, you are my folks.
A chance of survival I ask,
I know you love me behind that mask.
Care not about the world,
While the entire universe wants us to be together.
Just please let me live,
The gift of life please give.

It isn’t always an easy choice, and this is why it MUST be a choice – an appropriately difficult one, if it means the end of a pregnancy, but still a choice. Not ours, but the mother’s.
I had a friend who, without such a choice, would be dead now. It wasn’t a choice she, or her husband, ever wanted to make – but she could not risk almost certain death, not with two other children and a husband to love, look after, and support.
I wrote this poem, many years ago, in honor of that choice – which really was a hugely tragic one, but there was no other one possible. And the details really aren’t anyone’s business but hers.

Beautifully composed packed with powerful thoughts.
Poignant, yet beautifully written. 🙂
Beautiful, heartfelt poem. Thank you for expressing words that come directly from your heart. I have a friend who delivered a dead little girl a few years ago. The poor little girl, named Violet, was well-loved and is well-missed. My friend had another baby two months ago, who would have also passed away if it hadn’t been for excellent medical intervention. She was born prematurely and alive. Two months later, she is more than double her birth weight and will be going home fairly soon. Her doting daddy shares daily updates on Facebook with photographs and with stories written from the baby’s perspective. Her name is Daisy. I am so happy for Daisy and her lovely, doting parents. I hope that all babies can find such love that Daisy finds.
rightfully expressed the pain of female foeticide . i daily come across these kind of patients some are forced by family & same are at their will .i counsels them everyday about its ill effects some are motivated & some become the part of the common rush .hats off for wonderful poem 🙂
child is precious.
Beautiful poem.
This is a very excellent platform for new-age poetry, I think. Specialty is that anyone can publish his/her writings & can connect with poets/writers socially as well.
