Give me a break,
for heaven’s sake!
Let me feel safe for a change,
That feeling now strange.
Give me a break,
for heaven’s sake!
Don’t whistle or ogle for a change,
To you does that feel strange ?
Give me a break,
for heaven’s sake!
I know good men exist,
But it is like the mist on an early summer morning.
Give me a break,
for heaven’s sake!
The whistles and sounds disgust me,
I don’t want to take it any longer you see.
The fear that teaching you a lesson that needs to be taught,
may end up in rape or an acid attack,
When will I live in a city clear of fear,
where aren’t monsters lurking around in the corner?
Day 12 of UBC!
Hi Ramya,
Beautiful poem. It tells a really important perspective on wanting to feel free in your time off without having to worry about bad men.

So awful for you to live in a country where you live in fear of what men are capable of doing with little or no provocation. It makes my life in Australia seem very safe.
Every woman can relate to this. The sad and bitter truth of our country. Loved the way you said good men are like the mist.

This has touched a raw nerve in me as I am repulsed by the thought of rape and acid attack everyday. I dream of an India where these are punishable by death.
Loved your poem Ramya – thanks for bringing out these awful truths about our society in such a poignant manner
So true Ramya. Lechers everywhere! When will we be free to live life as we want? Beautiful poetry!
Beautiful expression in words !!!

A strong poem with a question mark at the faces of the people to understand the need to make the surroundings free of any fear.

I can dream of a world where things like this won’t happen, but I despair that this world will never exist.
Well expressed Ramya. I can’t help but wonder if you live in my country? Your poem certainly indicates you could. Keep safe, and keep writing poems!
This is the hard hitting reality of today. We live in troubled times. You’ve expressed the whole pain so eloquently.
We could all do with a break. Predators come in all shapes and sizes. The scariest ones are those within families and friends who prey on young girls.
Nobody will give you a break. you have to take it.:)
Sad but happens. I love how you are penning these beautiful poems on a theme.

It’s horrible to live in fear.Hopefully things will get better
Lovely poem, but a sad truth.
These kind of men do not deserve to be a part of our society. Every time, the girls are blamed and it is really ridiculous and sad part for all of us.
I am genuinely glad to glance at this website posts which carries lots of helpful information, thanks
