I live in a society obsessed with fair and thin,
women loved based on the color of skin.
Where weight personifies beauty,
It is hypocrisy you see.
Where we believe in creams more than us,
With food, we fuss.
While men go along with their demands,
we acted as if a change was out of our hands.
It is not fair,
while men looked like stomach filled with air.
Women had a physical definition,
Today I have a petition.
Don’t stare at the curves,
It gets on my nerves.
Women, love and embrace yourselves,
That is a big thing in itself.
Society, your definition of beauty
Sounds fancy but nasty.
True love knows no color or size,
Just needs open eyes.
And it is Day 6 of UBC!
I wish it becomes true.. mindset needs to change
I agree, Manisha. Needs a lot of effort and time though. But we will hopefully get there. đ

This whole talk of beauty is one sided and biased against the fairer sex. Hope things improve after such powerful post as yours.
I think in will take quite some time for things to change. We are programmed, brought up like that. Thank you for such kind words. đ

Nicely written !
Sadly, large companies are promoting only set norms of beauty for selling their product. It does not matter to them that in a geographically diverse country like India, there are 50 shades of Brown. These shades should be celebrated instead of being looked down upon.

So true, beauty products and the likewise is one of the most successful business right now. It is mainly because of our misconception and attitude. Thank you so much for dropping by and commenting. đ

It is high time people understand that true beauty and love is in the eyes and not in the shapes and colour. Very nicely penned poem, Ramya.

Pride in colour and oneselves comes with the confidence your parents give you,, I always think that if you give enough assurance to your kids from their young age they would never fall for all those ads or the peers trying to pressurize them..nice one and a great thought

Wonderful poem – it really does describe the shallowness some people have. But remember, it’s only a certain kind of man or woman who is shallow enough to be fooled by the heavily manipulated images we see all around us.
I am very fair-skinned with red/blonde hair – I was bullied at school because my hair was different to most and I longed to have dark skin and dark hair. I love my hair now but I am still very drawn to the beautiful colouring of dark skinned people.
I feel sorry for people who are falling for the beauty myth that advertisers are promoting – they are missing out on real life and real people while looking for something that is not real.
Dear Gilly,
Thank you so much for dropping by and appreciating. It is just that here people are obsessed with color. It needs immense self -love and conviction to prove otherwise.
Thank you for sharing your opinions. đ

Very true,
Just got a #whatsapp pic on which a quote
saying “Fairness is not a measure of personality”,
I will add “Gori shakal but dil ke khote”.
True Ramya! A woman’s beauty is more than skin-deep.Great poem!
Bingo!
There is a need for a bigger change..don’t know when it will happen. It is only possible if people stop getting obsessed with outer beauty and look for more inner beauty which is rare to find these days..Good one Ramya!
Hear, hear! Body positivity is so very very important. And this is an issue that more and more people need to talk about!
